Bridging the gap between global weather foundation models and street-level urban resilience, the UrbanAIR project continues its close collaboration with sister projects under the Horizon Europe Destination Earth initiative.

The UrbanAIR project is pleased to announce its participation in the upcoming WeatherGenerator Dissemination Workshop, on February 11th, taking place in Oslo and online. Organised by the WeatherGenerator project in collaboration with ECMWF, this workshop is a milestone event for the meteorological and digital twin communities.

Event Details

UrbanAIR: A Sister Project in Action

UrbanAIR and WeatherGenerator are "sister projects" funded under the same Horizon Europe topic: HORIZON-INFRA-2024-TECH-01-03 (New Digital Twins for Destination Earth). While WeatherGenerator focuses on creating a world-class generative foundation model for the Earth system, UrbanAIR translates these large-scale atmospheric insights into actionable, high-resolution simulations for cities to tackle heat stress and air quality.

\representative of UrbanAIR at the workshop is Prof. Dr. Angela Meyer from the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH). Angela is an Assistant Professor of Energy Meteorology and Artificial Intelligence, with a dual appointment at BFH and TU Delft. Her expertise lies at the intersection of data science and atmospheric physics, specifically in using machine learning to improve the reliability of renewable energy systems and urban climate resilience. Her presence ensures that the technical synergies between urban-scale needs and global foundation models remain at the forefront of the discussion.

Building on a Foundation of Collaboration

The synergy between our projects is already in full swing. Earlier this year, UrbanAIR joined forces with TerraDT and WeatherGenerator for a joint webinar, where the three projects demonstrated how they collectively strengthen Europe’s Destination Earth (DestinE) initiative.

By working together, we are ensuring that the digital twins developed under this HE topic are not just isolated tools, but a cohesive ecosystem. High-resolution data from TerraDT and foundation models from WeatherGenerator provide the critical inputs that allow UrbanAIR to deliver precise, street-level "what-if" scenarios for city planners in Antwerp, Barcelona, Paris, Bristol, and Rotterdam.

Stay Updated: What’s Next for 2026?

This workshop is just the beginning of a very active period for the UrbanAIR consortium. We have a suite of activities, technical milestones, and stakeholder engagement events planned for the first quarter of next year.
