UrbanAIR will be officially represented at the upcoming FOCAL European Clustering Event, taking place in Zaragoza, Spain, from May 6th to 8th, 2026.
This event marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to build synergies
with "sister projects" across Europe. Representing UrbanAIR will be Sam Pickard
from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), who will join other leading experts to discuss how digital innovation can drive climate-resilient decision-
making.
Collaborating for a Greener Future
The FOCAL project is a premier European initiative focused on advancing agro-
forestry systems through digital technologies, climate services, and interoperable data solutions. By participating, UrbanAIR aims to share our insights on urban air
quality and climate data, finding common ground with FOCAL’s work on forest
digitisation and sustainable management.
What to Expect in Zaragoza
The three-day event is packed with thematic sessions designed for dialogue
and convergence between EU-funded initiatives. Here is a glimpse of the
agenda:
Date & Session | Focus Area |
Day 1: May 6 Enterprises & Business | Industry roles in high-tech EU projects for forest digitisation and sustainable management. |
Day 1: May 6 Living Labs & Pilots | Success cases from European pilot experiences and pathways for real-world uptake. |
Day 2: May 7 Digital Twins & Climate | Exchange on Digital Twins, climate scenarios, downscaling, and interoperability. |
Day 2: May 7 Data & Operations | Focus on data interoperability, restoration, and fire-resilience in agro-forestry. |
Day 3: May 8 Field Visit | An optional visit to pilot sites in the Aragón region to see digital solutions in practice. |
Why This Matters for UrbanAIR
Urban and rural environments are intrinsically linked. The technologies UrbanAIR
develops for air quality monitoring and climate modeling share a technological
backbone with FOCAL’s forestry and data solutions. Sam Pickard’s presence in
Zaragoza will allow us to explore Digital Twin interoperability and shared data
standards—crucial components for a unified European Green Deal approach.
